Dear beloveds,
I was recently reminded of a story about a man named Hari, who I befriended while living at an ashram in Kerala, India. Hari emanated a radiance that attracted everyone. He was full of love and full of light and he lived his life in devotion to the great hugging saint called Amma (my “spiritual mother”). I had the grace of traveling with Amma in South India and doing stage seva (devotional service) while Hari helped in food service, cooking all day and washing pots at night that were taller than he was.
While I struggled with the heat and the travel, among other things, Hari seemed to never tire or lose his smile. One day, I noticed he seemed especially vibrant, so I asked him about it. He told me that he had been at one of Amma’s programs and she had looked over and caught his eye and beamed a loving smile at him. This had caused Hari to go into a state of ecstatic bliss.
“Full!” he exclaimed with his arms outstretched. “I am full!”
The photo of this drawing is from a page in my journal from that day.
Though he worked in food service, Hari rarely ate. He filled up on the Divine Love he received through Amma. He was one of the happiest beings I ever knew, and I’m sure still is!
As we move into this time of the full moon and into these months where many of us celebrate the holidays, we often start to fill up on things that may not necessarily nourish us. So, as we move into this time, I encourage you to ask yourself, “what really makes me feel Full…what can I fill up on that helps me to shine my Inner Light?”
The change in weather along with the night sky coming earlier makes it a fantastic time to get out and do some moon bathing and fill up with moon light. This “Hunter’s Moon” is one of the fullest we receive all year, visible from sunset to sunrise and appearing full for three nights. It also may appear to be more orange in color, in keeping with this time of year.
I wish you all a fullness that arises from the infinite Divine Source energy within.
Jai Maa!
